What’s new at the Alexandra

Winter 2013

Happy new year everyone. Its been great to welcome back so many of our previous guests and to welcome so many new ones. As far as the seasons go we had some beautiful spring and summer days over the past year(along with a few damp ones of course) that gave way to the usual beautiful Highland autumn when the tree covered hills that surround Ballater take on there beautiful golden colours. We have had a fair bit of snow to keep the skiers and snow borders happy but there has been no real disruption.. yet!

The biggest event to hit Ballater last year was arguably the Olympic Torch Relay which came through town back in June. We had a great view from the hotel and it was good to so so many people come out on the streets to welcome the relay team.

The other big news story, given Ballaters Royal connection was the Jubilee. There were pipe bands and picnics and even the creation of the Ballater Jubilee Cairn. The residents of Ballater, collected 60 stones from hills in the surrounding area to create the display which was unveiled by the Queen during her visit in September. She was greeted by hundreds of well-wishers as she walked around the village talking to residents and local children.

We have been busy at the redecorating more rooms, including install free Wifi.  The bar is as lively as ever and has been buzzing with visitors and locals alike. As well as serving a wide selection of local single malt whiskies a real favorite has been real ales from the award winning Cairngorm Brewery. This has again brought us recognition from CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale and we have been listed in the Good Beer Guide for the second year running.

On offer in the bar from the Cairngorm Brewery.

That is all the news for now, but whether you are planning to call in for a meal and a quick pint, or a longer stay, we look forward to seeing you soon.
